Aiming BIG

The days of multiplexes are gone and now are the days of megaplexes. Big Cinemas has drawn up a plan to build 12 megaplexes in India in which one can not only see movies but also enjoy cricket and soccer matches on-screen! Tushar Dhingra, Chief Operating Officer, Big Cinemas, gives an insight.
Unlike five to six screen multiplexes, the megaplexes will have 11 to 15 screens with a seating capacity to accommodate 4,000 to 5,000 people in each of them. We will screen anything that makes for enjoyable viewing. The customers will even be able to watch a cricket match or a soccer game in these megaplexes. We will offer a variety of content and something for everyone, said Dhingra adding, With the film entertainment segment poised for further growth that will spawn a new generation of cinegoers, Big Cinemas, a subsidiary of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), has conceived the concept of megaplexes. With this new endeavour in mind, the company will set a new benchmark for the exhibition outlets of the country, Dhingra believes. India has the maximum number of film viewers compared to the Western world and the number is growing. But the number of cinemas per thousand people is still less in India. So there is enough room for growth and we plan to fill the gap. Dhingra says in the metros and other large cities, cinemas have already ceased to be seen merely as exhibition outlets for films. Cineplexes, according to him, have become virtual entertainment hubs where film viewing is only a part of the outing for a family. He said five locations with massive sites have already been identified. To start with, while two of these megaplexes will be built in Mohali in Punjab, one each will be in Delhi, Lucknow and Hyderabad. Dhingra added that the locations have been carefully chosen, keeping in mind the high spending capacity of consumers in these key cities. The company is now in the process of identifying seven more prospective locations across the country for building megaplexes. It will be fitted with the latest exhibition technology. High-end digital technology will be sourced from overseas to make film viewing enjoyable.
Talking about some of the customer-friendly initiatives, Dhingra says, We have segmented our programming through age-specific needs of various people. Like for the seniors in our community, we have Silver Screen in which the sound is kept at a particular level, we have well-mannered ushers and we provide our viewers diet food. Similarly we have something for young parents who have small babies. Couples from nuclear families dont want to come to cinema halls lest they have to face embarrassment with their babies crying in the middle of a film. Their ultimate want was some sort of baby-care facility. In our Baby Bliss segment we provide baby-care facilities. With this facility on hand, such couples can enjoy a problem-free viewing. Why should kids be left behind. We have a special initiative for kids too. For them we have 1o1 (one on one). Some of the specialised programmes in this segment include tattoo painting, cultural activities, drawing classes etc. This segment is conducted every Sunday. Talking about the business angle in Big Cinemas replacing Adlabs as a name, Dhingra adds, Reliance ADAG dealing in customer-facing business are all under the brand Big like Big DTH, Big FM, Big Flixs etc. We acquired Adlabs around three years ago and anyways had to change the name sooner or later. We thought that this was the right time for it. Naturally, with the change of name, business was bound to increase.
The global financial crisis may have forced many companies to put their expansion projects on hold, but Big Cinemas is singing a different tune. Describing movie entertainment as a recession-proof business, Dhingra says that the cinema chains investment plans were on track and it was looking for new lease agreements in various parts of the country to expand operations. He however is of the view that there would be a slight dip in the theatre advertisement revenue owing to the recession. While advertisements account for 10 per cent of the divisions revenue, ticket sales account for 60 per cent and mum and dad tattoos 30 per cent comes from selling food and welsh dragon tattoo beverages. For the last quarter Big Cinemas earned Rs.890 million. Big Cinemas has 186 screens across 72 theatres in the country with a total seating capacity of 70,821. Among them is Big-Cinema Park in Agra, situated a kilometre away from the Taj Mahal, which has pioneered the multi-sensory cinema experience in India through a six-dimensional show. Big Cinemas is thereby the only cinema in India which screens films in both 3D and 6D formats. Talking of the 6D format, Dhingra adds, The days of 3D has gone, now are the days of 6D. In the 6D format, one would be able to see, feel the environment of the scene that is projected. This has been designed keeping the tourists who come visiting the Taj. For them, we have come out with a novel 30-minute film called India In Motion that is interactive in nature and is very sound technologically. There is a guest feedback platform both on a book and a mobile too and is a nice interface between our guests and us.
With rampant piracy all over the country, has Big Cinema taken steps to curtail it? Yes, we have our personnel in the halls equipped with night vision goggles. Plus ours is the first cinema company to distribute content through underground cableall to curtail piracy if not do away with it.
Technology for consumer benefit is the other cornerstone of this strategy. This is embodied in the launch of various products likes mobile box-office, a GPRS-based application that allows consumers to book tickets on their mobile phones and tattoo bangkok EasyTicket, the nations first virtual pre-paid card in this category. It is this customer orientation that has won Big Cinemas several awards in the retail space. It was named Retailer of the Year in Entertainment for the second year running at the India Retail SummitMost Admired Retailer in Entertainment Award at the Images Retail Awards 2007.
Big Cinema has been selected to receive the Exhibitor of the Year-2008 by CineAsia to be presented Dec 11 at this years CineAsia-2008 convention in Macau, Chi. This is indeed an honour for being singled out for our achievements. In the world of exhibition, you couldnt ask for more, adds Dhingra.

Season S Readings

Clement Clarke Moore's ''Twas the Night Before Christmas' has delighted one and all since it first appeared anonymously in a newspaper in 1823. This season, some oldie-but-goodie versions are available, along with a few wacky new ones amid piles of pleasing picture books for Christmas and Hanukkah.
Twas the night before...
'A Pirate's Night Before Christmas,' ($14.95, ages 4-8, Sterling) by Philip Yates, with illustrations by Sebastia Serra.
This is a bellylaugh of a book for young buccaneers, loaded with jargon that lends itself to amusing read-alouds.
Christmas Eve aboard the Black Sark has the pirates 'snorin' like pigs in thar beds, while visions of treasure chests danced in thar heads.' With a shout of 'Avast!' from the poop deck, seafaring Santa emerges from the mist with a Captain Hook hand and one good leg, snarling at his harnessed team of giant sea horses from his shell sleigh: 'Now, Salty! Now, Scurvy! Now, Sinbad an' Mollie!' A couple of women pirates are on board and there's a surprise for the ship's hardworking lookout.
'The Dinosaurs' Night Before Christmas,' ($18.99, ages 4-8, Chronicle) by Anne Muecke, with illustrations by Nathan Hale.
A boy is snug in his New York City apartment bed when a clatter from the American Museum of Natural History across the street awakens him. Racing over snow in bare feet, he walks into a dinosaur holiday party in the fossil room.
Lighting a yule log in the middle of the floor and munching on gingerbread in the shape of Pterosaurs, the boy is hoisted by his new friends to place a star atop their tree, then the booming voice of Santasaurus swells as he calls to his dino-deer Bronto and Maia and Steggie and Packy. Tri-tops and Raptor and Rexxie and Bracki!
Included is a CD of dinosaur-themed holiday songs and a readaloud of the book by Al Roker. A portion of book sales goes to the museum.
'Night Before Christmas' ($17.99, ages 4-8, Putnam), written and illustrated by Jan Brett.
This is the 10th anniversary hardcover of Brett's magical vision that honors the Victorian feel of the poem with Stockbridge, Mass., as the setting. She includes lively margin art that's a story onto itself, lots of animals and a twist all her own: a couple of stowaway elves.
'Alaskan Night Before Christmas' ($15.95, ages 4-8, Pelican) by Tricia Brown and illustrated by Alan Stacy.
The head of Santa's team is a self-centered caribou named 'Kotz,' short for the Alaskan town Kotzebue. With a flashy smile, he hogs the media spotlight and dreams of stardom ala Rudolph, but he ends up down and out in Anchorage instead.
'Racecar Driver's Night Before Christmas' ($15.95, ages 4-8, Pelican) by Una Belle Townsend and illustrated by Rick Anderson.
The book has 'old Santy Claus' in a fireproof red suit as a late-starter in a bust-'em-up Christmas Eve race dubbed the Jingle Bell Jammer.
'Hawaiian Night Before Christmas' ($15.95, ages 9-12, Pelican), written and illustrated by Carolyn Macy.
Here Santa rides in on the balmy trade breezes aboard an outrigger canoe pulled by sea turtles. The book is filled with Hawaiian words and has bare-chested Santa in a malo (men's cloth wrapped around his hips). After leaving gifts near a trimmed coconut tree, he bids: 'Aloha, and Mele Kalikimaka to all!'
Consumer fun
'A Flake Like Mike' (HarperCollins, $16.99, ages 3-8, for sale exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue stores and Saks.com) by Mike Reiss and illustrated by Chris Capuozzo.
A curlecue snowflake named Mike is shunned by the mass of lookalike flakes, but he leads a bloodless revolution against comformity with a smile on his face. The story and art with bohemian flair are the inspiration for the Saks holiday windows at the flagship store in New York. A portion of proceeds will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
'A Very Marley Christmas' (HarperCollins, $17.99, ages 4-8) by John Grogan and illustrated by Richard Cowdrey.
Coinciding with the Christmas Day release of the movie 'Marley & Me,' starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, the hyper yellow pup runs off with the lawn lights but leaves smiles on the faces of his family in the little house on Churchill Road.
More stories
'The Nutcracker' (HarperCollins, $24.99, ages 5-up), written and illustrated by Patricia Fry.
This spectacular pop-up version of the holiday classic offers colorful and intricate paper cuts that include a sumptuous Marzipan Palace, a Christmas tree that unfurls to nearly a foot tall and a fierce, multiheaded mouse king with a sword.
'Reindeer Christmas' (Simon & Schuster, $15.99, ages 4-8) by Mark Kimball Moulton and illustrated by Karen Hillard Good.
A grandmother and her two grandchildren on a walk in a snowy forest stumble on an ailing reindeer with a mighty resume that includes an ability to soar. Told in rhyme with touching, dreamlike illustrations.
'All I Want for Christmas' (Blue Apple Books, $9.95, ages 4-8), written and illustrated by Deborah Zemke.
What does a starfish want for Christmas? Two and a half pairs of mittens, of course. How about a skunk, a woodpecker or a porcupine? This quick little animal book might appeal more to toddlers.
'Priscilla and salamander tattoo the Great Santa Search' (Little, Brown and Co., $16.99, ages 4-8) by Nathaniel Hobbie and illustrated by Jocelyn Hobbie.
The fourth in the Hobbie sibs' series starring the pink-loving Priscilla. This time, she and gal pal Bettina head north in search of the real Santa after spotting a couple of bad mall impostors.
'What Dogs Want for Christmas' (Sleeping Bear Press, $16.95, all ages), written and illustrated by Kandy Radzinski.
Nipping at the heels of last year's 'What Cats Want for Christmas,' Radzinksi offers equal time to the bow-wows, including Watson the Scottie as he appeals to Santa: 'I'd love some mittens made of Persian kittens.'
'When Santa Lost His Ho! Ho! Ho!' (HarperCollins, $14.99, ages 4-8), written and illustrated by Laura Rader.
Santa is dealing with the mysterious loss of his trademark bellylaugh. Gargling doesn't help. Throat spray is useless. Not even the comedy stylings of his elves can help him, but Mrs. Claus has a plan.
'I See Santa Everywhere' (Hyperion, $12.99, ages 4-7), written and illustrated by Glenn McCoy.
The book opens with a boggle-eyed boy sitting in his therapist's office beneath busts of Freud and Dr. Phil, unloading his holiday angst over seeing seedy Santas lurking everywhere. There he is as plumber under the sink, Christmas tree boxers on display. And again as tattoo parlor customer, burger hut window worker and bow tattoo designs store greeter. Paranoia?
'The Lump of Coal' (HarperCollins, $12.99, ages 4-up) by Lemony Snicket and illustrated by Brett Helquist.
Not exactly for the preschool set, Snicket's bite-size unfulfilled lump of coal is looking for a miracle. Drawn in tuxedo tails, the coal wants to make great art, or at least a great barbecue fire.
'Merry Christmas, Ollie?' (Houghton Mifflin, $12.95, ages 4-8), written and asiatische tattoos illustrated by Olivier Dunrea.
The endearing goslings are waiting in the snow for Father Christmas Goose. Wearing a red and yellow striped stocking cap, Ollie captures the impatience of childhood as he stands on his head, hops aroundshouts: 'I want Christmas now!'

There Are Plenty Of Opportunities In Pirating

Arrrgh! Pirates be back! Let's keelhaul the swine -- no, belay that, walking the plank be better for these lily-livered sons of a jellyfish.
The recent news that pirates have commandeered an oil tanker 400 miles off the coast of Somalia was quite a surprise. The surprise being that in 2008 there are still pirates. I mean the kind of pirates that hijack billion-dollar ships, not the evil cutthroats that download Madonna's music for free. And as we all know, if you're caught pirating Madonna's music, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But if you hijack a ship on the open ocean, you can bet that nothing will happen to you, and no one will ever bother track you down.
I used to think seafaring pirates had gone the way of highwaymen, footpads, cut purses and stagecoach robbers. I didn't know you could become a pirate today any more than you could become a cooper or a lady's maid. How do you get to be a pirate in the first place? Do you take an aptitude test?
What do you like better -- parrots or albatrosses? Do you prefer hands or hooks? Would you rather swab decks or sit in an office? Where would keep your retirement money? A 401(k) or a treasure chest? Do you like heavy metal or sea shanties? Do you prefer a glass of chardonnay or bottle of rum? English muffins or hardtack? Do you get seasick? Do you like to climb ropes, hand over hand, holding a knife in your teeth? Ever wear an eye patch just for fun? Do you like Errol Flynn movies?
Or is being a pirate something your high school guidance counselor might recommended as a good career path? Tell me, have you ever read 'Treasure Island?' There are plenty of opportunities in pirating and now may be the time to get in on the ground floor. And you don't need to spend $40,000 a year on college. You can make $50,000 a year ransoming oil tankers and cruise ships. You don't even have to join a fraternity or learn how to binge drink. Sure, you have to start at the bottom, but there are plenty of great benefits. You're practically on a cruise all the time. You don't have to decide now, but give it a thought. The other career choices for someone with your grades are dishwasher at a fast food place or crash test dummy. Don't be a stranger.
Actually, it's not much of a mystery why someone would want to become a pirate. It's the money, which is the same reason people want to become shipping magnates. The money is good and you don't have to work too hard. But here's what I don't understand. If you're smart enough and altdeutsche schrift tattoo rich enough to build a half-billion-dollar oil tanker, tattoo zeichen why aren't you smart enough to protect it from pirates? How smart do you have to be to hire a security guard with a gun -- especially if you know you're sending your ship into pirate-infested waters?
For a while, tweety tattoos I wondered how the pirates were going to get a million gallons of oil into a treasure chest, much less bury it. X would have to mark one big spot. It turns out, all they want is a ransom. Give us a lot of money we didn't earn and don't deserve and we won't hurt your propertyis what they are saying. It leads me to believe the pirates are more educated than I thought. You only learn that kind of thing at best business schools.

Young Plans To Be Worth The Punt

MOST AFL players wanting to try their luck in America's NFL competition wait until the end of their careers, but Adelaide recruit Will Young has reversed the trend.
Young, selected with pick 72 in Saturday s NAB AFL Draft, spent a good part of last year in New York State playing punter and wide receiver for Hancock Central High School.
I went over there [the United States] for an exchange for 10 months when I was 16 years old. I just printed some forms off the computer to apply and I got in, so I went over there and went all right in gridiron, Young said.
I scored a couple of touchdowns and it was a great experience playing that sport. You have to learn a lot, different plays and that sort of stuff, but it was just great going over there.
Young, who missed the entire 2006 season with stress fractures in his back, reacquainted himself with the Sherrin upon his return and was talked into trying out for the North Ballarat Rebels under-18s side.
The 192cm, 83kg athlete impressed at both ends of the ground and tattoo istanbul was selected to represent Vic Country in this year's NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.
Placed in the defensive group at Adelaide, he said he is still struggling to come to terms with his sudden rise to an AFL list.
I came back from the US midway through 2007 and started pre-season with the North Ballarat Rebels, he said.
I wasn t really expecting much at all I was just trying to get a game but I had an okay year and tattoo side effects now I m here.
Young, who sports a tattoo of a five-pointed star on his shoulder to represent him and his four brothers, hails from a farm outside Ballarat where his stepfather breeds harness-racing horses.
But he was in the saddle of another kind on Thursday when the draftees joined former Australian cycling coach and club mentor Charlie Walsh for a road ride around Adelaide.
The ride was great. We had to learn how to clip our feet in to the bike to start with and that was pretty hard. We were staggering all over the place, but it was great to go around the city and nail tattoo see the beach and all those kinds of things, Young said.
Adelaide s a lot different to Ballarat. The weather is a lot better here; it s like 10 degrees down in Ballarat every day so it s good to have a bit of sunget the tan going.

San Rafael Fire Linked To Gas Explosion; Dead Man ID D

Alexander Gregory Sujohn, 51, was found dead inside his front door Tuesday evening after firefighters searched the charred ruins of his home at 812 A St.
An autopsy was performed Wednesday and coccinella tattoo it appears the cause of death is 'fire-related,' said Assistant Coroner Gary Tindel. But the cause will not be officially determined until toxicology tests are completed, he said.
Authorities were still investigating whether the explosion was accidental or intentional.
'There's been nothing confirmed as far as whether he was despondent,' said San Rafael police Sgt. Raffaello Pata. 'We're still looking into that.'
The explosion occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday at the residence, a 1,400-square-foot duplex in a mostly commercial section of downtown San Rafael. Investigators said Sujohn's family owned the duplex and tattoo side effects he lived alone in one half of it. The other half was going to be rented out.
The preliminary investigation indicates the main area of the blast was toward the front of the building, in the area of the kitchen and nacken tattoos living room, San Rafael fire Capt. Bradley Mark said Wednesday.
Mark said the explosion occurred in two phases, which is 'not uncommon' for natural gas blasts.
'We had an initial light explosion with a heavier one following,' he said. 'It blew out the windows and it blew out the south wall of the kitchen
and living room from the top plate (where the side wall meets the roof).
'The firefighters pulled out the rest of the wall because they thought it was going to fall. That's typical of a natural gas explosion -- something's got to give somewhere.'
After stabilizing the building, firefighters went inside and found Sujohn's body. No one else was in the home,no animals were found.
Mark said a possible source of ignition might have been a spark from a smoke detector or furnace. There was no evidence of an accelerant at the scene.
'At this point there's nothing suspicious,' he said.
Sujohn, a tattoo artist, was a member of a family with a longtime presence in San Rafael. His father, John, who died in 1981, was a veterinarian who ran a downtown spaying clinic.

Plaxico Burress Can Now Feel Special

Plaxico Burress, who obviously doesn t have much in the way of brains to blow out, brought his gun into Manhattan and into the Latin Quarter because, he reportedly explained, he was carrying cash and jewelry. Sounds good in theory, but here is a question that no one has answered in the aftermath of the New York Giants receiver s arrest: What was Plaxico going to do if some young thug decided to grab one of his chains and run? Draw, like the Outlaw Josey Wales? Just, you know, let him have it?
Here is a guy who could not secure his gun and drink his wine at the same time. We re supposed to believe he is better off with a loaded weapon than without one? Did he honestly think he was ready to pull that gun and use it? Burress was in a VIP room, in a club equipped with metal detectors, accompanied by a bodyguard and a rather large teammate, linebacker Antonio Pierce.
Despite all that, Burress supposedly convinced some chump at the nightclub that he just had to hang on to his piece, that he didn t feel safe without it. And amazingly the chump gave him a pass, which ironically might be the last special favor Plax gets for a while.
In the last few days, there has been a lot of discussion about jocks and material tattoo their guns, and why so many athletes feel the need to arm themselves. These young men have money and nice cars and tattoo istanbul schedules that appear in the newspaper each day. Easy targets, in other words, so why shouldn t they do what they can to protect themselves?
Well, that s great, but shouldn t doing what they can include firearms training and learning the law and, even better, staying the hell out of the Latin Quarter? If you don t feel safe enough to walk into a place unarmed, it s time to find another place.
Here is the dirty little secret about guys and their guns. It is not really about protection, at least not in most cases and tattoo side effects certainly not in Burress case. Sadly, it s more of a fashion statement, no different from a tattoo or a nose ring or a black leather jacket. Something to round out his macho-guy ensemble for a big night on the town.
Was he ready to use his Glock on another person? Certainly not, but he sure was ready to show it off to another person or two or 10. It will come as no surprise if we learn later that the gun went off while he was showing his tablemates his new toy.
Burress has played in the NFL for nine years, but never has he served as a greater example for young athletes than when he shot a hole in his leg. We know many of these guys feel bulletproof, and here comes Plax to literally prove them wrong. You think they might think twice about packing the Glock next time they head out for the night? Look what happened to Plax. With one slip of the trigger he lost his job and his contract, and in all likelihood, his freedom will soon follow. It was one hell of costly fashion statement. Sarah Palin s got nothing on Plax.
The current poster in the New York City subway is bland and forgettable: 1 gun 3 Years, it reads, and, boy, you can just imagine all those young riders quaking in their Skechers as they heed Mayor Bloomberg s warning.
Soon there will be new posters for Bloomberg s anti-handgun campaign, you can be sure this one will capture the attention of every passerby. The mayor s new poster boy is a Super Bowl hero who is facing a mandatory 3 years in prison for one self-inflicted gunshot wound.
It would be an outrage if we didn t prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, said Bloomberg.
Oh, the irony. In the state of New York, fewer than 10 percent of defendants facing the same weapons charge as Burress actually do the mandatory minimum, but it looks like one thing won t change for good old Plax.
He s still going to get special treatment. Once again, he gets to go someplace just because he s Plaxico Burress. Only this time he doesn t get to bring his Glock. Let s hope he s as tough as he thinks he is.

Crash Ended Dreams For Woman, Boyfriend

Darren Hoover loved Cadillacs. He owned a 1994 Seville, midnight blue, with beige leather seats. He souped it up, too: noisy exhaust pipes that got him more than one traffic ticket; a semi-truck horn that surprised people whenever he blew it; a state-of-the-art stereo that blasted Metallica.
His girlfriend, Kayla Richardson, often sat in the passenger seat. He held her hand as he drove fast down the back-country roads. And when he looked away from the windshield toward her, butterflies flew around in her tummy.
The two of them planned to get each other tattoos for Christmas 2004. He wanted the Cadillac emblem, big, across his back. She wanted butterfly wings, with a halo on top.
Darren never got his tattoo. Kayla got hers eventually, but instead of a halo, her angel wings are framed with the wreath from the Cadillac emblem, in his memory.
Darren died Dec. 6 that year, after crashing his beloved Caddy on a county highway in the Pepin County town of Lima. His car flew over a hill after hitting some black ice late at night, plowed into some trees and flipped. He was 21. His blood-alcohol level was 0.097.
Darren and salamander tattoo his friend, Jacob Weisenbeck, who was severely injured but survived, had been hanging out at a bar, Kayla said.
The crash occurred a mile or so from the scene of the crash that killed Darren's 14-year-old brother, Justin, 11 years before.
Darren and tattoo removal before and after Kayla met at Durand High School, where he was homecoming kingproduced the 2002 senior class video. The two didn't get together until a couple of years after graduation.
They had been dating just four months when he died, but they had lots of dreams. He was buying an auto shop where he had worked since eighth grade. And someday, he was going to buy a new Cadillac: a luxury, high-performance CTS-V, black on black, supercharged.
Four years later, Kayla still thinks of him all the time.
I've missed him, just being in the Caddy, tattoo istanbul she said. And, when we were in the Caddythe way he looked at me.

A Dragonfly Tattoo

I once stood in line in at Wal-Mart behind an attractive woman who had a tattoo of a dragonfly on the small of her back. I asked her if she knew the significance of the dragonfly whereupon she asked me if I knew the significance of minding my own business.
As relationships go, it was remarkably short.
Dragonflies, much like tattooed women, have their fair share of weirdness. They make themselves invisible to airborne prey by using a system called 'motion camouflage.' It tricks the victim's retina into perceiving the dragonfly as a stationary object blending into the background. Thus, the dragonfly becomes 'invisible' even though it's moving forward. Often, the pursuing dragonfly will fly away from its target rather than toward it to maintain the disguise.
I had become familiar with the dragonfly years earlier when I lived in Arizona where a man who claimed to be a shaman gave me a reading using 44 Native American Indian medicine cards. He explained that as we come into the Earth Walk, there are seven directions, each aligned with a particular ability or challenge, surrounding our bodies: East, South, West, North, Above, Below, and Within.
Then I drew seven medicine cards representing the seven directions in my Earth Walk.
1) East -- Wolf. The wolf awakens the teacher within to understand the Great Mystery of life.
2) South -- Armadillo. The armadillo teaches us to define our boundaries or space.
3) West -- Dragonfly. The dragonfly reveals the illusionary facade of physical reality.
4) North -- Hummingbird. The hummingbird encourages us to enjoy the succulent nature of life.
5) Above -- Bat. Bat medicine teaches that to become your future, you must die and nail tattoo be reborn.
6) Below -- Whale. Whale medicine people have the psychic ability to tap into the universal mind.
7) Within -- Antelope. The antelope empowers us to honor the gifts sent from the Great Mystery.
The West medicine card reflects the internal solution to your present life challenges and coccinella tattoo reveals how to reach your desired goals. In my case, this is represented by the dragonfly.
According to the shaman, this world is full of nature spirits. Dragonfly medicine indicates knowledge received from the spirits of the four basic elements of air, earth, fire, and water. Dragonfly medicine is the essence of the winds of change. Messages of enlightenment were supposedly being communicated to me, especially during the dream-time, causing a transformation where illusion was being replaced by true wisdom.
I was indeed going through a transformation at the time.
The physical world seemed more like a robotic world of worker bees toiling in a giant rat race to maintain an economy that seemed more like a pyramid scheme than an intelligent way of life.
Humanity was being duped into a self-perpetuating system of servitude to a formation of governmentsmega-corporations whose only purpose was to ensure their own growth.
For a government or mega-corporation, it meant survival.
To an individual human being seeking peace of mind, it was madness.
When I returned home from Wal-Mart, a dragonfly was perched on my mailbox, tattoo bangkok reminding me to always be aware of the world around me.
For example, a woman who wears a tattoo is a woman who wants to be noticed. And a woman who wants to be noticed is a woman who wants to be admired. But the moment you express a hint of admiration, the same woman will instinctively reject you.
Men may rule the world but women rule the men.
A dragonfly tattoo is a subtle form of camouflage -- you can admire it but must pretend you don't notice it.

Town: No Law Against Tattoo Shop

MILFORD The town cant rewrite the rules to prevent a tattoo parlor from opening on the Oval, officials told residents during a standing-room-only meeting of the selectmen Monday night.
The owner of a gift shop was there to ask selectmen to prevent LA East Tattoos and Body Piercing from opening next door, in the PC Carr Realty building.
I know its important to fill empty storefronts, but at what cost? asked June Costa, saying the new business would undermine the good work we started 20 years ago.
She read from the towns 2007 Master Plan update that said the town must be vigilant in protecting its rural character and sense of place and must steer against a negative direction and maintain a unified image.
But selectmen and other officials said the tattoo parlor has a right to be there and meets all town requirements.
We consider it in the same category as beauty parlors, said Bill Parker, community development director. They have met all code and health requirements.
An unsigned ad in last weeks edition of The Cabinet asked people to join us at the Nov. 24 selectmens meeting . . . to help stop tattoos on the Oval and to go to the town Web site and express your feelings.
Resident Janice Bartolomucci said she was outraged at the idea of a tattoo parlor on the Oval, but those who supported the business were more vocal than those opposed.
One man, who called himself, an ordinary Joe with six kids who moved here because of the good schools, said he did not like references to the type of people a tattoo parlor would attract.
I have two tattoos. My brother had tattoos in the service. Why does he not have the right to open? he said.
Michelle Knowles, a 34-year resident with two children, said she supports the tattoo parlor and said its not fair to target one business.
Carolyn Crooker, who owns the Hair Cottage beauty salon, agreed.
This is his dream and its not up to us to crush it, whether we like it or not, she said.
Costa showed photos of the Sweet Spot, the sports card shop the tattoo parlor is replacing, and nacken tattoos said the space is dirty.
If Precision Body Art in Nashua was moving in, I wouldnt be opposed, she said, referring to a business in Nashua.
But Selectman Jim Finan called her opposition intensely unfair.
LA East owner Wilfred Lamontagne has every right to open a business. I have four children and have gotten a lot of phone calls and e-mails, and I have to try to explain to them why someone would not want a tattoo parlor, said Finan.
What makes us unique is our diversity, he said. This is not Hollis or Amherst. Its a working-class community with a lot of diversity.
He has done nothing wrong and we are making judgments because someone looked in a window? he said, referring to a letter from Costa in last weeks Cabinet in which she implied that the storefront space is dirty.
Selectman Kathy Bauer said she agreed completely with Finan, and asiatische tattoos Chairman Gary Daniels said the town would be open to a lawsuit if it violated the landlords right to rent to anyone with a legal business.
Its not our job to set rules about what is allowed and not allowed, said Selectman Jim Dannis. The board has no role in the process.
Lamontagne, who was not at the meeting, has said he closed his shop in Laconia and salamander tattoo decided to move south because of the declining economy in the Lakes Region. He plans to open the Milford shop in December.
Bill McKinney, Milfords commercial building code enforcement officer, said his research showed that LA East had no violations in Laconia during the 30 years it was there, and that the owner is a licensed practitioner and there were no complaints to the state Health and Human Services department.
He also noted that Manchester once had an ordinance forbidding body art that was repealed as an unfair restriction.
Near the end of the nearly 45-minute discussion Justin Atwood, the videographer who was recording the meeting for cable TV, spoke up to say he thought tattooing is a great art form and would be great to have on the Oval.
Although a tattoo parlor may be undesirable to some people, said town administrator Guy Scaife, its really important for the citizenry to understand that this board cannot discriminate. It would be unlawful to retroactively stop a process thats already in motion, he said.
Costa did not seem convinced.
Where theres a will, theres a way, obviously theres not a will, she said before leaving the meeting.

Nick Wey Interview From Transworld

After a decent 2008 season aboard a MDK KTM450SX-F, Nick Wey found himself searching for a ride for 09. With not much on the table, the Michigan native went out and purchased a new 09 CRF450R just to get by while he figured things out. As luck would have it, though, a ride with his old employer Yamaha of Troy materialized and Wey now finds himself aboard a privateer YZ450F for the new season. With a fresh start, we decided to give NYK a call to see how things have been going.

How many years has it been since you first rode for Yamaha of Troy?
I rode for Yamaha of Troy in 2001 on a 125cc two-stroke.
Seven years later you are re-united with Yamaha of Troy. How are things going on the new team?
Pretty good. Ive been riding a Yamaha that the team gave me for the past couple of weeks. Obviously, they have some sponsors that have been around for a long timeEnzo Racing being one of them. Ross has been taking care of me and making sure everything is setup just how I want it. I think things are coming along well.
Did it take you some time to get adapted to the bike?
I definitely felt comfortable on the Yamaha right away. Ive only been riding the Yamaha for a couple of weeks, but I am trying to spend as much time as possible on the bike. I think Ill definitely be ready for Anaheim I.
Youre coming off one of the most powerful, worst handling bike and getting on the slowest, best handling bike
Is that how it works?
Stock for stock, definitely.
Uh Well, I definitely felt comfortable on the Yamaha, but I think that MDK/KTM provided a great team for me, and an awesome atmosphere. I cant thank those guys enough for all of their support over the past couple of years. I came across a great opportunity for 09 with the guys at Yamaha of Troy. Monster Energy is stepping up to support our team, and I believe Boost Mobile will also be joining our team. Things are coming together a bit late, but there is no reason why we wont be competitive come Anaheim.
Before the Yamaha thing came together, didnt you go out and buy a Honda?
Once my MDK/KTM contract was up, I needed to get something going, and I thought the Hondas looked pretty cool. I was actually on a bike ride when my wife called me saying she was at a dealership. I told her not to get me a bike, because I knew they were gouging people when the 09 Honda first came out, but she told me she was sick of hearing me complain that I didnt have anything to ride. Honestly, though, I think she just wanted me out of the house. When I got home from my bike ride, I had a brand new Honda CRF450R in my garage. I thought that was pretty cool! I spent some time on that until the Yamaha of Troy deal came about; then AM-PMs Jon Bratta stepped up to title-sponsor the team. I cant thank Scott Paul, Sepkovic, Dang, and Burnsy enough for the opportunity. Im looking forward to a fresh start.
I know about the tattoo story, but you need to give us a recap so that the fans are aware of the pure pressure you are subjected to.
I got a new tattoo on my arm that has my daughters name on it. My wife had got a tattoo with a few friends in Hollywood and she liked the guy who did it. I guess the guy is pretty popular, because there was a three-month waiting list and nacken tattoos my wife really wanted me to get one. I ended up getting it done on my forearm, but there were a few people in there that were egging me on to do it. After I got it done I was happy, though.

You need to tell us about the cherry blossom flowers and them telling you it was a tough guy tattoo in Japan.
(Laughs) I got the same tattoo as my wife, because I thought it was pretty cool. It has this abstract heart thing and it has my daughters name on it with some cherry blossoms. I told them that I couldnt get that tattooed because it was girly. I cant be rocking a heart and flowers on my arm, but Rick Thorne [BMX pro] and the tattoo guy kept telling me how its for my daughter and how it is also an old school Japanese gangster tattoo if you have a cherry blossom.
What are your personal goals and expectations on the new bike?
My goal is to get back to where I was in 07. I want to be back inside the top five and battling for podiums and even better than that. First things first, I need to get back into the top five. I basically have 30 days before the season starts, but I am going to be as ready as I can be.
The fifth dragon team has always been a team contract for clothing. We know that Jason Lawrence will be wearing Fox, but youre a die-hard MSR guy. With that said, do you have the option to run whatever gear you select?
Definitely. Ive been with MSR for a long time. Ive been riding for MSR for so long because their gear is so sick. I mean, why dont we admit it, I am looking pretty dope out there. I am stoked to be staying with MSR even though Im on a new team. Ive talked to a few other folks with decent opportunities, but Scott Paul at Troy Racing wanted to work something out and MSR, TCX, and Spy gave me a good home that will allow me to continue on the same program.
Have you spent much time riding with your new teammate?
No. Ive only seen him once. I know he is riding a bunch, but Ryan Villopoto, Jake Weimer, and tattoo removal before and after I share a track at Adam Chatfields house, and obviously Jason isnt too down with that crowd. Jason is really cool, but he is doing his own thing, and I am spending a lot of time with Villopoto and nail tattoo Weimer because we all have the same trainer.
Who is going to rub off on who? Are you going to grow your hair out or is Jason going to get a hair cut?
I dont know. I think he is going to do really well this year, but I dont think it matters about the hair. He is obviously going to do his own thing, and Ive always respected him for that. I am going to do what I think works best for me as well, and I dont think what I do and what he does is going to affect anything. I am just going to concentrate on myself,I think the whole team is going to have a great year.
Ivan Tedesco has his own signature goggle from Dragon that has his tattoos on it. Does MSR have any plans on releasing gear with cherry blossoms?
Uh I dont know. But I can rock it!

Tattoo Parlor Permit Fight

LawtonA new tattoo parlor was supposed to be a hot topic on the Lawton City Council agenda Tuesday night but the parlor owner says council tabled Eden Tattoo on the agenda before the meeting even started. Now it's back to the drawing board for the tattoo studio.
Mike Evans already owns one tattoo parlor in Lawton. He has hopes of expanding but an Oklahoma statute that says a tattoo shop cannot be within a 1,000 feet of a church stands in his way. It's a statute a district judge in Oklahoma County has already ruled as unconstitutional.
When the judge made that ruling, Evans thought it opened up a much larger area of the city to him. 'Where it's located at is the busiest intersection in Lawton, between Cache Road and Wal-Mart there. 70% of this town drives by that location at least once a week,' said Evans. He's talking about the storefront he has already filled.
Evans says he's put over $20,000 inside and tattoo zeichen outside. That's money he says he wouldn't have invested if he didn't get the go-ahead from a city staffer already. 'Them telling me that I can go ahead with this project and that they're not going to enforce that whether that individual in permits had the authority to say that or not, salamander tattoo he did say it,' Evans said.
Councilman Bob Shanklin said that he cannot speak for what the city employee said. But Councilman Randy Warren says, it's clear that current ordinance bans tattoo parlors within a 1,000 feet of a churchand the council can't overrule that ordinance. 'A judge is going to have to be the one to decide this. A judge is going to have to tell us that in Comanche County they find it to be unconstitutional,' said Warren.
Evans plans to do exactly that. He'll take this one to a judge because he says he will open his tattoo shop in the location sooner or later. '[Wednesday] the City of Lawton should be getting a letter from my attorney and we're going to file suit against them. We're going to sue for punitive damages.'
The Council tabled indefinitely any action on the issue Tuesday night.

The church near where Eden Tattoo hopes to open their doors is building a new churchwill be moving in the coming year.

A Brand Of Passage

Student athletes at UW-Whitewater carry the school's name with them to every sporting event they go to wherever it may be. Along with pride for one's own achievements, there is pride for the school that helped make them possible. Runners for the UW-Whitewater men's track team have adopted a new tradition to carry their school pride with them outside of sporting events.
Sophomore varsity runner Kyle Oberstadt took his trip to the tattoo and salamander tattoo piercing parlor Fink Ink this year after competing with former varsity runners in the team's alumni race. Many of the former runners have a Warhawk tattoo. Oberstadt took his school pride with him beyond the track.
It started with a student on the men's team about six or seven years ago senior Brian Butzler, a member of the track team, said. Brian Zawleski had the old Willy Warhawk tattooed on his chest. The old symbol shows Willy standing, looking over at one flexed arm. This left an impression on other members of the team and soon the tradition to get a Warhawk tattoo was started.
Members of the team set individual goals that they must achieve before getting the tattoo. Butzler decided not to get the tattoo until he became an All American in his respective event. An All-American athlete has achieved a top eight status out of all the athletes in his or her division for a specific event. Once Butzler had achieved his goal, he got the Warhawk head tattooed on his calf.
Butzler went to a tattoo parlor that has since gone out of business in downtown Whitewater, but most students now go to Fink Ink on Main Street. Butzler said the team currently has about seven runners with the Warhawk tattoo on their calves.

No Stopping Tattoo Parlor

Opponents of a tattoo parlor coming to the Oval finally had a chance to air their concerns publicly Monday might.
A crowd packed the selectmens meeting, with one local business owner and one resident speaking out against the business. Overall, more residents spoke in favor of it than against it.
While the towns Main Street Program director has said some business owners are uncomfortable with their soon-to-be new neighbor, only one has made their opposition public in the four weeks since The Cabinet first reported that the shop was coming to town.
Regardless of the size of the opposition, theres really nothing that can be done to stop the shop from opening its a perfectly legal use for the space as far as the town is concerned. And even if town officials feel a little balky now which none of their public comments even remotely indicate it would only invite a costly and salamander tattoo ultimately unwinnable lawsuit if they tried to change the zoning rules in the middle of the game.
The best that opponents of the shop can hope for is for the business to fail because theres not a big enough market for tattoo and tattoo removal before and after body-piercing services in the Souhegan Valley. If that happens, opponents can then petition the town to change the zoning regulations for the Oval and prevent similar businesses from locating there in the future.
In the meantime, we trust that the towns code enforcement officer will work hard to ensure that the shop is operating as promised and we encourage the owner, Wilfred Lamontagne, to be a good neighborgo out of his way to recognize the concerns some folks have about the character of the Oval.
As for opponents of the business they need to stay vigilant, but keep an open mind. Whether they like it or notwell all soon have a new neighbor.

Sophomore varsity runner Kyle Oberstadt took his trip to the tattoo and piercing parlor Fink Ink this year after competing with former varsity runners in the team's alumni race.
The old symbol shows Willy standing, tattoo set looking over at one flexed arm. This left an impression on other members of the team and schmetterling tattoo soon the tradition to get a Warhawk tattoo was started.
'I saw it as kind of a way to give back,' Butzler said on his reason for getting the tattoo.
Senior James Koceja's trip to Fink Ink was in the fall of '05. Like many of the guys on the team this year, Koceja got his tattoo on his right thigh.
'A lot of the varsity guys went that year,I had wanted to go for awhile,' Koceja said.
The goals set by members of the team are uniquebut the general principle behind each decision is the same.
Runners who had the gumption to get the tattoo will be able to carry their school pride with them long after they have stopped wearing any type of uniform.

Board Denies Tattoo Parlor

Board denies tattoo parlor
By Jamie Ward
Staff Writer
LAWRENCEVILLE - A proposed tattoo parlor to be located at a strip mall on the 700 block of Braselton Highway was denied without prejudice by the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday to the delight of nearby homeowners.
Now some of these same homeowners say they still have work to with regards to another business neighbor.
Besides what comes in the future at the 700 block of Braselton Highway, some nearby residents are still irked that an establishment such as the Oz Smoke Shop, located at 759 Braselton Highway, was allowed to open up there in the first place.
'The county doesn't appear to have good guidance with regards to the specific types of items that they sell in that shop,' said Joseph Counter, a resident of Lawrenceville's Pinbrook subdivision who spoke on behalf of many homeowners. 'It may be that this business might of slid through the cracks since there is insufficient detail in the county's ordinance. We don't hold anything against the tenant of the property. But it's not appropriate for this location.'
When the proposed tattoo shop was brought before the planning commission in early November, residents spoke up and out against Oz because they said it was a 'sex shop and a head shop' that didn't belong in the area. They also questioned whether or not it was operating within the boundaries of the zoning ordinance. At the time, Gwinnett County Planning Director Glenn Stephens said the county's Quality of Life Unit would investigate possible infractions.
According to Brian Chandler, the owner of the Oz Smoke Shop, the county kept true to its word.
'The county inspected my store and we went over the county ordinance and laws,' Chandler said in an e-mail. 'I am not breaking any laws or violating any zoning restrictions, nor did I receive any tickets or citations. I have been in this business since 1998 and schmetterling tattoo I've never been ticketed for breaking any laws.'
And that is what Counter and his supporters would like to see changed. Counter said Oz was allowed to open as a gift shop without obtaining a special-use permit. Counter said this allowed Oz to open as something that is an 'inaccurate description of what it is.'
'It appears the county just hasn't done a particularly good job of filtering when it is and when it is not required to have a special-use permit for this particular type of establishment,' Counter said. 'They've done a good job for a number of other categories of businesses, but this one might have slipped through the cracks. The smoke shop got in there under the radar,' he said. 'Apparently our radar needs to get tuned up.'
Chandler defended his business and indianer tattoos said he didn't want any conflict with the local community or the county.
'I just want to run my business and toe ring tattoos provide for my family,' Chandler said. 'I understand some people do not like my store, that is their right. But I do not understand why people would want to close a tax paying business down during such bad economic times.'
